Admission

‘Since our son started at the Academy we feel that both of us have fallen on our feet...., he really is accepted for who he is and they treat him with the utmost respect...’

(parent)

We would then conduct an Initial Needs Assessment. This pre-entry assessment is based on the completed application form, reports from previous school or college placements, information from parents/carers and advisors and the Vyrnwy Academy Needs Assessment completed in the applicants home/school/college or residence by our own Assessor. This visit provides the opportunity to meet the applicant in their own environment and to enter into discussion regarding the applicants needs with the applicant and those closest to the them.

After this assessment a report is prepared, and a copy sent to the applicant and their representatives. At this stage Vyrnwy Academy will then accept or refuse an application for a placement at Vyrnwy Academy. Refusal of a place will be based solely on whether the Academy feels the needs of the applicant can not be met through the provision offered.

Once funding has been agreed a start date will be arranged and we will begin the transition process which can involve short visits and over night stays. This will be agreed with parents/carers based on the needs of the student.

Within the first three months a comprehensive Baseline Assessment will take place to determine educational levels, vocational potential, personal aspirations and levels of support required. This assessment will then inform planning of the Individual Learning Programme.

Opening Times and Course Length

Vyrnwy Academy is open for 50 weeks per year as we are closed for 2 weeks during our Winter Break in December/January. The length of the student’s stay at the Academy is flexible but is usually based on three years. If it is in the student’s interests to stay for longer or leave earlier then this can be arranged in line with our contract.

Admissions Procedure

Prospective students, their parents, carers, careers advisors and other professionals are welcome to arrange a visit to Vyrnwy Academy at any time to help inform their decision of a prospective placement. If, after a visit, all involved would like to proceed with an application then an application form, information pack and details of fees can be requested by post, email or telephone.
